Master Your Metabolism

5.0 out of 5 stars An Explanation of the Real Reasons for Obesity, August 30, 2009
Jillian Michaels' high energy writing style makes "Master Your Metabolism" a pleasure to read. It is also extremely well researched! I was especially interested in why diet sodas can make you gain weight and finally Jillian Michaels gives the real reasons. She also gives some dire warnings about some supplements I have been taking, especially CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). There are some very interesting ideas in this book. I've never read that eating salmon can make you feel calm and positive. I am also surprised that there is "lead" in lipstick. I'll continue to look for natural brands in the future.

After reading this book you may also reconsider giving soy formula to babies. If you drink wine you may be surprised about the research that links alcohol to breast cancer. You may find yourself tossing out anything with partially hydrogenated oils. I don't buy items with the oils in them but my husband does and so there were a few things I decided to give away like chocolates with palm oil by Starbucks.

Should you toss out all your plastic storage containers? Jullian Michaels recommends that you store your food in glass. Some Tupperware however might still be safe. She is also a diehard proponent of organic foods. Apparently Safeway (which I rarely go to) has more organic foods than most grocery stores. So that was helpful information I can really use.

"Master Your Metabolism" makes a lot of sense and covers topics that I don't feel have been addressed very effectively (if at all) in other diet books. The information on hormones was all news to me and I have read quite a few diet books. Maybe, finally, we are getting to the real cause of obesity in America. Other countries have banned certain toxins while in America we seem to use them freely on our food.
