Grandma’s Dill Tuna Melts

Tuna—a heart-healthy member of the mackerel family—is our most popular canned fish. Steely blue albacore is the best in this recipe.

Tuna Filling

1 (6-ounce) can albacore tuna, drained
     2 tablespoons mayonnaise
     ¼ teaspoon dried parsley
¼ teaspoon dried summer savory leaves
     ¼ teaspoon dried dill weed
     Pinch garlic salt
     Pinch sweet paprika
     Pinch ground black pepper
     6 cucumber chips

4 slices French, rye, white or whole-wheat bread
     ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

1.  In a medium bowl, use a fork to mix the tuna, mayonnaise,
parsley, savory, dill weed, garlic salt, paprika and pepper
just until blended. Chop the cucumber chips and stir into the tuna.

2.  Spread tuna on your choice of bread. Top with cheese and
grill just until melted. Cut in half and serve hot.

Hint: We often use the same filling to make regular sandwiches. Add
lettuce and cut sandwich into triangles.
